James Connell, a 2011 summer intern at the Nicholas Chronicle, researched and wrote about the history of the Battle of Carnifex Ferry. The history series commemorates the 150th year since the battle was fought – September 10, 1861. The series was printed in advance of the battle reenactment, September 10-11, 2011. The Nicholas Chronicle has served the heart of West Virginia since 1880. The West Virginia State Park system extends a ‘thank you’ to the newspaper for sharing the series with our web and state park visitors.
